Race informationKURRAWA TO DURANBAH & RETURN - 50 kmThe Events: The events consist of: 1. a solo race of 50 km (measured). Trophies to 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and 1st, 2nd and 3rd female 2. a relay section for 2 runners, each of whom runs 25 km, one down and the other back. Trophies to the winning female team, winning male team and winning mixed team. 3. a solo race of 25km (down only) for solos without relay partners. Trophies to 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and 1st, 2nd and 3rd female Where: From Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach to Duranbah Beach (25 km) and back (for 50 km). The course: The run course is along footpaths and walkways essentially parallel to the beach. Run all the way to Duranbah, on the mouth of the Tweed River, separating Qld from NSW then back again. Further and better particulars: Proceed south along Old Burleigh Road, which after 800 metres becomes Hedges Avenue, which then becomes Albatross Avenue to aid station 1, which is at Nobby's Beach Surf Club, on the corner of Albatross Avenue and Lavarack Street . Continue south on Albatross Avenue which becomes Marine Parade, then up the steps at Miami (5 km mark near top of steps). Veer slightly left down the hill linking with the footpath parallel to the beach, past the North Burleigh Surf Club. then past the Burleigh Surf Club (Mowbray Park), turning left at Goodwin Terrace, up the hill towards the entrance to the Burleigh National Park. Report to station there at the park entrance, do a U turn at the car park, running back down the footpath on the LH side of Goodwin Terrace, turn left into the pathway alongside the Caravan Park, emerging on to the Gold Coast Highway. Continue south, up the hill, through the cutting and down the hill on the other side, past the information center on the left, across the bridge at Tallebudgera Creek to aid station 2 at the Tallebudgera Surf Club. Continue along the footpath adjacent to the Gold Coast Highway, passing the 10km mark, turn left into 15th Avenue, Palm Beach. There will be a marshall on this corner. Then turn right into Jefferson Lane which runs parallel to the Gold Coast Highway, continue until the end, turning right into Laceys Lane and aid station 3. Turn left again along Gold Coast highway, crossing the bridge at Currumbin Creek. Then proceed down the ramp into Durangan Street which winds around the beachfront into Pacific Parade. Continue past the 15 km mark and then the Elephant Rock Surf Club following Pacific Parade which turns right into Tomewin Street and left into Teemangum Street. Turn left into Teemangum Street (again running parallel to the beach) veer left on a walkway and across a narrow footbridge, which takes you back into Pacific Parade which recommences beyond the bridge. Proceed to the end of Pacific Parade then along a path, turning right into an easement which becomes Elizabeth Street. Turn left into Teemangum Street, past the shops where the roadway then becomes Golden Four Drive. Continue along Golden Four Drive turning left into Gibson Street and then right into Pacific Parade, again parallel to the beachfront, passing the 20km mark and aid station 5. Proceed past the Kirra Surf Club to Musgrave Streets Coolangatta, then left into Marine Parade, past the street markets to the Coolangatta - Tweed Heads surf club. There will be a marshall at this point to direct you along the path on the ocean side of Greenmount past Rainbow Beach and Snapper Rocks Surf Club, up the hill on the path adjacent to Marine Parade which becomes Tweed Terrace. Follow Tweed Terrace around to the right, past the monument at Point Danger which leads into Hill Street, turn left into Eden Street and down the hill to Flagstaff Beach Road adjacent to the Duranbah beach. Continue to the end of this street, into the park on the extreme northern end of the beach. Congratulations, you are now in the state of NSW and are at the halfway mark, if doing the 50 km.. You then tag your relay partner who makes the return journey along the exact same route unless you are particularly courageous in which event you can also do the return leg. Or, if a 25 km solo....just take it easy. If you need a lift back, please enquire. For a map of the run course, click here When: Sunday 14 December, 2008. The solo sections and the relay section all start together at 0500. Cutoff: There is a cutoff time for solos of 3 hours for the outward leg and 4 hours for the return leg. This cutoff does not apply to teams as there will be a mass start at 0730 for teams whose first runner has not arrived, with the times being adjusted later. Eligibility: The event is open to all runners and support on bicycle or MTB is welcome. Race packs: Available at the race start from 0400 on race-day. Aid stations: There will be five aid stations in addition to the start and turn-round stations. Course measurement: The course has been accurately measured and is accredited by the IAU. Race results: Will be available at the end of the race and on the website results Banners and sunshades: Relay teams are encouraged to bring their banners and sun shade/shelters to be placed at the relay changeover point and / or the finish at Kurrawa Park Memento: Mementos of the race will be given to all contestants. Late entrants cannot be guaranteed that they will receive a memento. Prizegiving: An awards ceremony will be held as soon as possible after 11 am at the race finish. BBQ & post race refreshments: A BBQ sausage/patty sizzle and drinks will be available at the race finish. Showers & toilets: Hot showers and toilets are available adjacent ot the Kurrawa Surf Club, adjacent to the race finish. Accommodation: Accommodation is available at numerous locations in the Broadbeach area. Travel: If travelling from overseas or interstate, it is recommended that you fly into Gold Coast or Brisbane airports. Ground transfers are available at nominal cost. Entry fees: Entry for the solo event is $50 ($45 for AURA members) or $25 per team member for teams or $25 for solo 25 km runners..
